Artist Spotlight w/ Lisa Odette

May 17, 2023

First, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I'm a 3D &2D artist and sometimes animator who likes to play with bright colors and stylize basically everything I do.

I've always loved to draw and it makes me very happy to be doing this for a living.

Getting to a style doesn't need to be a "eureka" moment. Just think about what you like and take bits of inspiration from, make something personal from the different things that you gravitate towards.

Can you tell us about your experience and the role you are primarily filling?

As I just said, I love drawing, and I always did. This made me pursue an education as a graphic designer in order to be doing something remotely related to drawing as a profession.

I worked in various agencies and studios as a designer and motion grapher, but my mind was blown when I started learning 3D, because it felt like the perfect tool to draw with.

Slowly I've been building 3D a portfolio with personal, and some professional works and it seems like I'm going in a good direction.

If you could speak directly to the resourcing gods and powers that be, what would be your ideal project?

I would ask the almighty gods to let me work on some project that matches my current style but at the same time challenges me to step out of what I normally do in order to grow as an artist.

Do you have any dream clients?

Many, too many...

It's not that much about a concrete brand, but something in the fashion industry would make my inner child happy. Also, I´m very tempted to create something tangible, using my hands for more than holding a pen or mouse.

Lastly, do you have any memorable stories, life lessons, or tall tales you can share from your adventures as a freelancer?

Something I will never stop saying to aspiring artists and designers is to spend time developing your personal style. I've struggled with that for years, as I was a bit lost as a designer.

Getting to a style doesn't need to be a "eureka" moment. Just think about what you like and take bits of inspiration from, make something personal from the different things that you gravitate towards.

A moodboard, a color palette, a theme, knowing what you like about the artists you look up to.

Deconstruct the many things that you like and build a new one.
